Messiah Ends Elizabethtown's Season in Overtime, 4-3

GRANTHAM, Pa. --- Lisa Strausbaugh scored 2:57 into overtime to lead Messiah College over Elizabethtown College 4-3 in Commonwealth Conference semifinal field hockey action on Wednesday afternoon.

Nikki Bailey scored a pair of goals for the Falcons (15-4), who will travel to Lebanon Valley College for the conference championship on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Megan Angstadt (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) scored her first goal 5:56 into the game to give the Blue Jays (11-8) a 1-0 lead. Junior Andrea Miles (Phoenix, MD/Notre Dame Prep) scored 6:20 into the second half to put Elizabethtown up 2-0. Messiah College battled back on Bailey’s first goal at the 41:27 mark, and Lindsey Hunter tied the score 2-2 with 19:50 left in regulation.

Junior Sarah McFarland (Ambler, PA/Wissahickon) scored for Elizabethtown off an assist from junior Tiffany Vogel (Annville, PA/Palmyra) to give the Blue Jays a 3-2 lead with 11:25 left to play. Bailey’s second goal came with 3:49 left in regulation to tie the match and force overtime, where Strausbaugh scored the game-winner.

Messiah finished with a 27-8 advantage in shots and a 16-1 edge in penalty corners over Elizabethtown.

First-year student Laura Ressler (Media, PA/Delaware County Christian) made 18 saves for the Blue Jays, while Ashley Mowery made four stops for the Falcons.
