Director of Athletics and Physical Education: As the Director of Athletics and Physical Education at Elizabethtown College since 1995, Nancy J. Latimore has led the Blue Jay athletics program through an unprecedented period of expansion, change and success. Under her guidance, the College has launched four new varsity sports, including men’s and women’s track & field in 2000 and men’s and women’s lacrosse in 2002. She has overseen the construction of a $1.3 million baseball stadium completed in 2004, a new softball facility completed in 2001, a new track & field facility completed in 2001, and an all-weather field hockey and lacrosse field completed in 2000, as well as the installation of lights at the soccer stadium in 2001. During her tenure at Elizabethtown, the women’s soccer team advanced to and hosted the NCAA Division III Final Four in 1997, the men’s basketball team finished as the NCAA Division III national runner-up in 2002, and the men’s outdoor track & field team finished sixth at the NCAA Division III Championships in just its fifth season of varsity competition in 2004. From the fall 1995 season to the fall 2005 season, Elizabethtown varsity teams have won conference championships 29 times. While at Elizabethtown, she has served on the Operations Committee for the Middle Atlantic Conference, the NCAA Division III Championships Committee and the NCAA Woman of the Year Selection Committee. She has also helped oversee the development of the Student-Athlete Mentor (SAM) program, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Blue Jay Athletic Association at Elizabethtown College. Prior to coming to Elizabethtown, she was the Associate Director of Athletics for NCAA Division II member Clarion University of Pennsylvania, during which time she served on the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Tennis Committee. Before that, she served as the Assistant Director of Championships for the NCAA. She earned both her B.S. and M.Ed. in health and physical education at West Chester University. A native of Huntingdon, Pa., her career in college athletics began at Juniata College, where she served as Assistant Director of Athletics and Head Coach of Basketball, Field Hockey and Tennis. She is a member of the Juniata College Sports Hall of Fame as well as the Huntingdon County Sports Hall of Fame. |
