ETOWN, LYCOMING WIN ON FIRST DAY OF SPRINT BLUE JAY CLASSIC

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Host Elizabethtown and Lycoming emerged as the winners on the first day of the Sprint Blue Jay Classic Tournament Saturday night. Lycoming won the first game over Waynesburg, 92-84, to improve to 5-5 overall, while Etown defeated Lincoln University 79-62 to improve to 7-2 overall. With the losses, Waynesburg drops to 6-2 and Lincoln falls to 4-9.

Lycoming had five players score in double figures, and was led by Thomas Wesner with 25 and Chris Napier with 22 points. Wesner hit six of nine shots from three point range for the Warriors. Also, Lycoming's David Ganisin had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Waynesburg was led in scoring by Rob Strcula with 24 and Mike King with 23 points.

Etown survived a rough first half in which the Blue Jays shot 23.5% from the field and 0-11 from three point range and fell behind to Lincoln 31-24 by halftime. The Blue Jays shot 55.9% from the field, 5-11 from three point range and outscored Lincoln 55-31 in the second half to seal the win.

Five Blue Jays scored in double digits, and the team was led by Bob Porambo (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Lincoln was led by Ebin Draper, who scored 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds.

Lincoln and Waynesburg will play in the consolation game of the tournament Sunday at 2:00 p.m., and Elizabethtown and Lycoming will face each other for the tournament championship Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
