ETOWN HAS BEST RECORD IN 36 YEARS AS BLUE JAYS DOWN DICKINSON, 90-73

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's basketball team's record now stands at 13-3 following a 90-73 non-conference home win over Dickinson Monday night. The Blue Jays' current mark is the best for the team this far into the season since the 1964-65 campaign, when the team finished 19-3.

The 17-point margin of victory was deceptive, as Etown entered halftime with a narrow 42-41 lead over the Red Devils. Dickinson (8-8) took a 59-58 lead with 12:38 remaining in the game on a three-point play by Matt Shaffer (Carbondale, PA/Western Wayne).

Elizabethtown recaptured the lead with 11:33 left on a layup by Brian Loftus (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) that made the score 62-60. The Blue Jays quickly built a six-point lead, but by 6:03 remaining Dickinson had cut Etown's lead to 72-70.

A layup by Bob Porambo (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) with 5:20 to go put Etown ahead 74-70 and began a nine point Etown scoring run that put the game out of reach for the Red Devils.

Etown had four players score in double digits. Senior Matt Nikoloff (Grove City, PA/Grove City) led the way with 18 points. He shot 6-8 from the field and 6-7 from the foul line. Porambo scored 17 points and led the Blue Jays with eight rebounds, and Ross Unruh (Denver, PA/Cocalico) added 15 points.

Jon English (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Township) came off the bench for Elizabethtown to score 12 points in 11 minutes of playing time.

Shaffer led Dickinson with 23 points and 10 rebounds as four Red Devils hit double figures in points.

Etown returns to action on the road against Lebanon Valley Wednesday, January 24, to begin the second half of the Commonwealth Conference schedule. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
