ENGLISH SCORES 30 AS ETOWN DOWNS MESSIAH, 95-81

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Jon English (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) came off the bench, scored 30 points, and shot a perfect 13-13 from the field to lead Elizabethtown to a 95-81 home victory over Commonwealth Conference arch-rival Messiah Tuesday. Etown improves to 15-4 overall and 7-3 in the conference, while Messiah falls to 10-9 overall and 5-5 in the conference.

20 of English's points came in the second half, during which the Blue Jays outscored Messiah 54-41. The point total was a career high for the Etown sophomore, as was junior point guard Rocky Parise's (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) assist total of 11 for the Blue Jays.

All told, five Etown players hit double figures in scoring, including Brian Loftus (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West), who scored 19 points, led the team with five steals, had five assists and pulled down five rebounds.

Bob Porambo (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) added 13 points and led Etown with eight rebounds, Chad Heller (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) came off the bench to score 12 in only 14 minutes, and Ross Unruh (Denver, PA/Cocalico) scored 11 points.

David Greenplate led Messiah with 27 points, and Kenny Loyer had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons.

Elizabethtown shot 63.2% from the field for the entire game, while Messiah shot 42.9%. The Blue Jays also made eight of 14 three-point attempts. Messiah out-rebounded Etown 39-33.

Etown returns to action on the road against Scranton Saturday, February 3. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
