PARISE BREAKS PROGRAM ASSIST RECORD AS ETOWN OUTGUNS SCRANTON, 109-97

SCRANTON, Pa. --- Rocky Parise (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) set an Elizabethtown single-game record with 14 assists as the Blue Jays downed non-conference rival Scranton in a high-pitched offensive struggle, 109-97, on the road Saturday.

Elizabethtown's old single-game assist record was 13, set almost 20 years ago in the 1982-83 season by Damian Burnside. Amazingly, Parise recorded his 14 assists in only 19 minutes of playing time against the Royals, by far the fewest minutes played of any of Etown's starting five. As a team, the Blue Jays recorded 35 assists in the game.

Scranton shot a blistering 68.4% from the field and 10-18 from behind the three point line against Etown, while the Blue Jays shot 59.7% from the field and 15-32 from behind the arc. Etown, however, out-rebounded Scranton 32-16 and out-shot the Royals 72-43.

Ross Unruh (Denver, PA/Cocalico) led the way in for Etown with 22 points and six rebounds, including a 6-11 performance from downtown. Unruh also had five assists. Bob Porambo (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) added 21 points for the Blue Jays, and Matt Nikoloff (Grove City, PA/Grove City) went 9-11 from the field en route to scoring 19 points.

Etown's Brian Loftus (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) shot 7-8 from the field and scored 15 points with three assists and a team-high of three steals. His twin brother, Dan Loftus, who plays for Scranton, scored 20 points and had nine assists and one steal for the Royals.

Dustin Werdt (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) came off the bench to score 11 points and dish out five assists for Etown while shooting 3-5 from three-point range.

Scranton's leading scorers were Derek Elphick and Al Callejas with 26 points each.

Etown returns to action at home Wednesday, February 7 for a game against Widener, which is currently in first place in the Commonwealth Conference. Elizabethtown has not lost at home all season. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
