ETOWN DOWNS GETTYSBURG, 84-70

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 5-2 overall with an 84-70 non-conference win over Gettysburg at home Saturday. Gettysburg fell to 4-4 with the loss.

Elizabethtown jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opening three minutes of the game, but the Bullets caught up and took a 20-15 lead with 9:36 remaning in the first half. Elizabethtown, however, regained the lead, 26-25, on a layup by Bob Porambo (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) with 5:25 left in the first half and never looked back. By halftime, the Blue Jays had built up a 41-34 lead.

The Blue Jays reached their biggest lead when a layup by John English (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Township) put Etown ahead 58-31 with 13:30 to go in the game. Gettysburg cut the lead to nine with 3:29 remaining in the game, but never got closer.

Etown was led by Porambo, who scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Ross Unruh (Denver, PA/Cocalico) added 15 points for the Blue Jays while shooting 13-for-16 from the charity stripe, making five steals and dishing out five assists.

Matt Nikoloff (Grove City, PA/Grove City) added 14 points and had nine rebounds, and Rocky Parise (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) had five assissts. English was perfect from the field, going six-for-six on the court and two-for-two from the foul line to score 14 points in only nine minutes of playing time.

Elizabethtown returns to action at home against Eastern Saturday, December 16. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
