Etown Steamrolls Moravian, 106-82, Rocky Parise Ties Single Game Assist Record, Blue Jays' Winning Streak Now at 10
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown (12-1, 3-0) extended its winning streak to 10 games with a 106-82 Commonwealth Conference win over Moravian (7-5, 1-2) at Thompson Gymnasium Tuesday night. The Blue Jays' high-powered offense was running on all cylinders against the Greyhonds, logging 57 points in the first half alone and shooting 66.7% (22-for-33) from the floor in the second half and 62.9% (44-for-70) overall.
No Elizabethtown starter saw more than 24 minutes of playing time as the Blue Jays took a 23 point lead into halftime. Running Etown's full-tilt offense while the starters were in was senior point guard Rocky Parise (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt), who tied the program record for most assists in a single game that he set last year with 14. Parise accumulated 10 assists by halftime, and his total of 14 came in just 20 minutes of playing time. In all, the Blue Jays totaled 36 assists as a team.
Leading all Elizabethtown scorers was junior guard Brian Loftus (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) who, with 24 points, averaged a point a minute. Loftus shot 10-for-13 from the floor and three-for-five from three-point range, and he handed out four assists. Also averaging a point a minute was junior forward Chad Heller (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot), who scored 17 points and led the team with seven rebounds.
Junior center Jon English (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Township) scored 19 points in 20 minutes played and shot nine-for-11 from the floor. Bob Porambo (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) shot six-for-nine from the floor and added 14 points to the Blue Jays' effort.
Brandon Zaleski led Moravian with 19 points, and Kevin Hall scored 17 points for the Greyhounds. Moravian shot nine-for-15 (60.0%) from three-point range in the game.
Elizabethtown, now ranked 12th in the nation by the latest D3hoops.com poll released January 8, will return to on the road against conference rival Juniata Saturday, January 12. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
