Elizabethtown Extends Record Win Streak to 15 Games With 84-67 Win Over Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. --- Elizabethtown's program record winning streak reached 15 games with an 84-67 road win over Commonwealth Conference rival Messiah Tuesday night. Elizabethtown improves to 17-1 overall and 7-0 in the conference with the win, while Messiah falls to 4-13 overall and 0-7 in the conference.

Elizabethtown had a rocky first half, taking a 31-22 lead with 6:31 remaining before halftime only to see Messiah come back to take a 32-31 lead 3:24 before the end of the first half. In the end, Etown took a slim 38-34 lead into halftime following a pair of layups by Jon English (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Township) in the final 1:08.

The sixth-ranked Blue Jays outscored Messiah 46-33 in the second half as Etown reduced its turnover total from 10 in the first half to four in the second.

Brian Loftus (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) led Etown with 20 points, 10 rebounds and three steals, and he pulled down six rebounds. English scored 14 points with seven rebounds, Bob Porambo (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) added 14 points, and Chad Heller (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) scored 13 points and had six rebounds.

Kenny Loyer led Messiah with 17 points, and Matt Morgan added 15.

Elizabethtown returns to action on the road Saturday at Susquehanna for a 3:00 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
