ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Etown Defeats Arcadia, 93-62, to Open Season in Sprint Blue Jay Classic Tourament; Delaware Valley Defeats Eastern Mennonite 67-66 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown jumped out to a 1-0 start this season by dismantling Arcadia (0-1) 93-62 in the first round of Etown's Sprint Blue Jay Classic Friday night. In the evening's other game, Delaware Valley (1-0) defeated Eastern Mennonite (0-1) 67-66. Bob Porambo (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and Jon English (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Township) each led the Blue Jays with 16 points. Porambo shot three-for-three from three-point range. Sophomore Jim Barron (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua) came off the bench to also reach double-digits in scoring for the Blue Jays, shooting six-for-six from the foul line en route to amassing a career-high 13 points. Darryl Brown (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) led Elizabethtown with six rebounds. High scorers for Arcadia were Jeff Bilinsky with 15 points and John Pelligrino with 12. In the evening's first game, Delaware Valley staved off an Eastern Mennonite comeback in the game's final five minutes to win by one point, 67-66. Tom Kochanski led Delaware Valley with 16 points, and Josh Wortz added 10. Eastern Mennonite had four double-digit scorers, including E.J. Arrington with 20, Jeremy Newman with 17, David Bell with 14, and Michael Swartley with 13 points and nine rebounds. Eastern Mennonite will face Arcadia in the consolation game at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 17. The tournament championship game between Elizabethtown and Delaware Valley will follow immediately afterward at 4:00 p.m. Elizabethtown will try to capture the tournament's title for the second consecutive year. |
