Etown Wins Sprint Blue Jay Classic for Second Consecutive Year with 102-75 Win Over Delaware Valley; Rocky Parise Tournament MVP, Bob Porambo on All-Tournament Team; Arcadia Defeats Eastern Mennonite 90-79 in Overtime of Consolation Game
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown won its Sprint Blue Jay Classic Tournament for the second consecutive year with a 102-75 win over Delaware Valley (1-1) in the championship game Saturday. In the consolation game, Arcadia (1-1) defeated Eastern Mennonite (0-2), 90-79 in overtime.
Etown vaulted out to a 61-36 halftime lead over the Aggies. Tournament MVP Rocky Parise (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) dished out eight assists and scored 10 points for the Blue Jays. All-tournament team member Bob Porambo (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) added 10 points and three assists for Etown.
Also reaching double-digits in scoring for Elizabethtown included Brian Loftus (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West), who led the team with 20 points and eight rebounds, Chad Heller (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) with 10 points and five rebounds, and Jon English (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Township) with 14 points and six rebounds.
Also, sophomore center Ian Daecher (Lititz, PA/Warwick) came off the bench to tie the team lead with eight rebounds and had out five assists while scoring five points.
As a team, the Blue Jays had 31 assists and pulled down 52 rebounds.
Tom Kochanski led Delaware Valley with 10 points. He was also named to the all-tournament team. Delaware Valley's leading rebounder was Jeremy DeBord with four, and Randall Graves led the team with five assists.
An Eastern Mennonite three-pointer in the waning seconds of regulation time in the consolation game deadlocked the score at 65-65 and sent it into overtime, during which Arcadia outscored the Royals 25-14.
Billy Roberts led Arcadia with 20 points, and Vince Clark had 19 points and a team high of five assists. Also scoring in double digits for Arcadia were all-tournament team member Justin Baxter with 14, including an eight-for-eight performance from the foul line, and Tim Boerner with 10.
Eastern Mennonite's lone all-tournament team member, Michael Swartley, led the Royals with 18 points. E.J. Arrington scored 17 points for Eastern Mennonite, and David Bell scored 14 points while leading the team with six rebounds.
