ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Etown Pulls Out 78-66 Come-from-Behind Win over Conference Rival Messiah ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in the Commonwealth Conference with a come-from-behind 78-66 win over Messiah at home Tuesday night. Messiah drops to 6-10 overall and 1-6 in the conference with the loss. Elizabethtown opened the game with a 9-0 run, but Messiah outscored the Blue Jays 37-22 for the remainder of the first half to take a 37-31 lead into halftime. Etown did not manage to tie the game until 10:34 remaining in the second half, when Kyle Stem (Lincoln University, PA/Salesianum) was fouled in the act of shooting a three-pointer and made all three of his subsequent foul shots to tie the score at 52-52. Etown took a 54-52 lead on a Jon Connor (Hershey, PA/Hershey) layup at 10:19, but Messiah tied the score again 20 seconds later on a Gian Paul Gonzalez layup. For the next five minutes, the lead continually changed hands. Etown only went ahead to stay with 4:37 remaining in the game, when a Brian Loftus (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) layup gave Etown a 68-66 lead and began a game-ending 12 point run. Andrew Flynn (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West) led Etown in scoring with 14 points from off the bench, and he also had three steals while shooting five-for-eight from the field and four-for-four from the free throw line. Connor finished with 12 points on five-for-11 shooting, two three-pointers, and five rebounds. Kyle Conrad (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) scored 11 points from off the bench for Etown and pulled down five rebounds. Loftus totaled 10 points, a team high of four assists, and a team high of six rebounds, tied with Jon English (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Township), who also had six boards. English also scored 10 points on five-for-seven shooting and had two steals. David Henninger led Messiah with 14 points, Quinn McCullough added 13 points and four assists, and Gonzalez scored 12 points in just 16 minutes before fouling out on five-for-five shooting from the field.
