ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Lebanon Valley Slips Past Etown, 79-77 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Lebanon Valley kept its Commonwealth Conference playoff hopes alive Saturday with a 79-77 win over Elizabethtown in the Blue Jays' Thompson Gymnasium. Elizabethtown fell to 14-8 overall and 8-4 in the conference, while Lebanon Valley improved to 11-12 overall and 6-6 in the conference. Lebanon Valley jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opening minutes of the game, and held a 44-38 advantage at halftime after the lead changed hands several times in the first half. With 4:51 left in the game, Lebanon Valley held a 78-62 lead, and Elizabethtown mounted a fierce comeback in the closing minutes, going on a 15-1 run but falling just short. By two minutes remaining in the game, Etown had cut the lead to 78-70, and by one minute remaining, the lead was down to 78-75. A Kyle Conrad (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) layup with 25 seconds left cut the lead to 78-77, and the game's final point was scored with 13 seconds remaining as J.D. Byers made one of two free throws for Lebanon Valley. Brian Loftus (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) was Etown's top scorer with 16 points, including four three-pointers. Conrad added 11 points, and Jon English (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Township) scored 10 points while leading the Blue Jays with four rebounds. Evan Harlor sank five three-pointers en route to leading Lebanon Valley with 27 points, and Darren Pugh scored 18 points and led the Flying Dutchmen with 11 rebounds. Byers finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, and a game high of seven assists.
