ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Etown Blows Out Albright, 95-59, to End Regular Season; Blue Jays to Host Moravian in Conference Playoffs Wednesday ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown ended the 2002-03 regular season with a 95-59 blow out of Commonwealth Conference rival Albright Saturday. The Blue Jays wrapped up the regular season with a 16-8 overall and 10-4 conference mark, while Albright's season concluded with a 4-19 overall and 3-11 record in the conference. Elizabethtown's season will continue as the host of Moravian in the semifinal round of the Commonwealth Conference playoffs Wednesday, February 26 at 7:30 p.m. Etown surged out to a 60-31 lead by halftime. The Blue Jays shot 81.0% from the field in the first ten minutes of the game, 69.2% (27-for-39) for the entire first half, and 58.8% (40-for-68) from the field for the entire game. Etown out-rebounded Albright 36-31 for the game, and Albright committed 19 turnovers against just nine for the Blue Jays. Jon English (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Township) led Etown in scoring with 23 points and shot 11-for-14 from the field. Chad Heller (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) added 14 points, four assists, five rebounds, and two blocked shots, and Brian Loftus (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) scored 13 points and had four assists for the Blue Jays. Andrew Flynn (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West) came off the bench to lead Etown in rebounding with seven boards, and he scored 11 points. Terron Buchanon was Albright's leading scorer with 20 points, and Trevor Deeter scored 15 points and led Albright with eight rebounds. Etown captured second place in the Commonwealth Conference regular season, as Susquehanna improved to 11-3 in the conference. Two of Susquehanna's three conference losses came at the hands of Elizabethtown. Moravian took third place, and Lebanon Valley captured the final conference playoff spot in fourth place. Second-seeded Etown will host third-seeded Moravian, and first-seeded Susquehanna will host fourth-seeded Lebanon Valley Wednesday night in the conference playoffs. 2/22/03 4:00 p.m. at Thompson Gymnasium, Elizabethtown, Pa. |
