ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Elizabethtown Edges Messah, 86-81, for Eighth Consecutive Win GRANTHAM, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's basketball team stretched its current winning streak to eight games by edging out Commonwealth Conference rival Messiah College, 86-81, in Grantham Wednesday night. Messiah (10-6 overall, 2-3 Commonwealth) carried a 46-40 lead into halftime, but the Etown (11-4 overall, 3-2 Commonwealth) out-scored the host Falcons 46-35 in the second half. Etown shot 30-for-42 (73.3%) from the free throw line, while Messiah made just nine of 17 attempts (52.9%) from the foul line. Etown also held a 33-26 Kyle Conrad (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) and Jon Connor (Hershey, PA/Hershey) both led Etown in scoring with 16 points apiece, and they were Etown's only double-digit scorers of the game. Connor shot six-for-nine from the field and two-for-five from three point range while pulling down six rebounds, and Conrad went five-for-10 from the field and six-for-eight from the free throw line. Dan Keane (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) scored six points and led Etown in rebounds with nine, and Greg Adams (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) had a game-high of five steals while scoring eight points for Etown. Steve King came off the bench to lead Messiah in scoring with 26 points and pull down six rebounds. He shot 10-for-11 from the field and made all six three-pointers he attempted. Greg Bernhardt added 17 points from off the bench for Messiah on seven-for-nine shooting from the field and a three-for-four performance from behind the arc. Dave Carter and Quinn McCullough each added 11 points for the Falcons. Messiah's bench contributed 46 of the team's 81 points for the game. Etown will return to action as the host of conference opponent Lebanon Valley College Saturday, January 24 in a 4:00 p.m. game. 1/21/04 7:30 PM at Messiah |
