Etown Defeats Moravian, 77-63, to Go over .500 in Commonwealth Conference at Season's Halfway Mark
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown halted a second half Moravian rally to improve to 12-5 overall and 4-3 in the Commonwealth Conference after defeating the visiting Greyhounds 77-63 Wednesday night. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday and moved due to inclement weather. Moravian drops to 8-10 overall and 0-7 in the conference on the season with the loss.
Moravian jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening five minutes of the game, but Etown out-scored the Greyhounds 41-22 for the remainder of the first half to take a 43-30 lead into halftime. Moravian mounted a comeback in the second half, tying the game three times, first at 53-53 at 10:06, again at 55-55 at 8:44, and finally at 57-57 at 7:17, but was never able to take over the lead. Etown went on a 20-6 run over the final 7:03 to put the game away.
Kyle Conrad (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) was Etown's leading scorer with 19 points, and he hit four three-pointers. Ian Daecher (Lititz, PA/Warwick) added 13 Etown points and went nine-for-11 from the free throw line, and Dan Keane (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) scored 12 points for the Blue Jays.
Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) was Moravian's top scorer with 20 points, and Zach Zsilavecz (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) added 10 points to the Greyhounds' total.
Etown will return to action on the road against Albright in an 8:00 p.m. game Saturday, January 31, as the second half of the Commonwealth Conference season begins.
