ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Etown Falls on Road to Susquehanna, 81-63, in Commonwealth Conference Opener SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown, the defending Commonwealth Conference champion, lost its 2003-04 conference opener on the road Wednesday night to Susquehanna, last year's conference runner-up, 81-63. The Blue Jays drop to 3-3 overall with the loss, while Susquehanna improves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference with the win. Susquehanna's Nick Griffiths led the Crusaders with 24 points, and he became the 28th Susquehanna player ever to reach 1,000 career points in the course of the game. Chris Zimmerman added 13 points for Susquehanna, and he led the team with seven rebounds. Etown's top scorer, and its lone player in double figures in points for the evening, was junior guard Kyle Conrad (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin), who scored 19 points and made eight out of nine free throws and went three-for-four from three point range. Elizabethtown scored just 23 points in the first half and shot 16.7% (five-for-30) from the field. The Blue Jays picked up their performance in the second half, going 44.8% (13-for-29) from the floor. Susquehanna shot 63.3% (31-for-49) from the floor for the whole game. Etown will return to action as the host of Albright in a 4:00 p.m. conference game Saturday, December 6. The game is part of a day of festivities surrounding the kickoff of the year-long 75th anniversary celebration of Elizabethtown College athletics, which began with the school's first varsity athletics contest December 8, 1928 in a 27-22 men's basketball victory over Millersville. 12/03/03 8:00 p.m. at Selinsgrove, PA (O.W.
