Albright Snatches 83-78 Comeback Win from Elizabethtown
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Albright College picked up an 83-78 comeback Commonwealth Conference win on the road at Elizabethtown College Sunday evening. The Lions improve to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference with the win, while the host Blue Jays now carry a 3-4 overall and 0-2 conference record.
After a back-and-forth first half, Elizabethtown took a 36-31 lead into the locker room. By 14:35 left in the game, Etown had gone up 51-39 on Albright. In just over two minutes, however, Albright cut the lead to 51-50 following an 11-point run. Albright managed to tie the score for the first time in the second half with 7:35 left to play as an Elu Lawrence layup knotted the game at 66-66. Albright did not get its first lead of the half until 5:38, when Mike Boles scored to give the Lions a 70-68 advantage.
Etown tied the score at 70-70 on a Cameron Norris (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) layup at 5:15, but Albright went ahead to stay on a Terron Buchanon jumper that made the score 72-70 at 5:01. Albright went up by as many as six points a 1:38, but by 31 seconds remaining, Etown had cut Albright's lead to 80-78. Albright converted three of six free throw shots without allowing any Etown scoring in the final 27 seconds to clinch the win.
Buchanon was Albright's leading scorer with 30 points as he shot 13-for-25 from the field. Matt Kieselowsky added 13 points on five-for-seven shooting from off the bench for Albright, and Trevor Deeter added 11 points. Albright shot 14-for-35 (40.0%) from the field in the first half and 17-for-25 (68.0%) in the second half.
Kyle Conrad (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) was Etown top scorer with 28 points. Conrad drained all 16 of his free throw attempts in the game, and he pulled down eight rebounds, shot five-for-nine from the field, and shot two-for-three from three-point range. Jon Connor (Hershey, PA/Hershey) scored 13 points and sank three threes as well, and Andrew Flynn (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West) scored 12 points from off the bench for Etown. The Blue Jays' leading rebounder was Dan Keane (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) with nine rebounds.
Elizabethtown will return to action after a week and a half off as the host of the University of Scranton Wednesday, December 17 in a 7:30 p.m. game.
