ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Etown Defeats King's, 87-76, Jon Connor Ties Blue Jay Three-Point Shooting Record WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College improved to 5-4 overall with an 87-76 victory over King's College (6-2) on the road Friday night. The game was actually played at Wilkes University, as the King's gym is currently undergoing repairs during winter break. Etown's sharpshooters ruled the first half, going 61.3% (19-for-31) from the field and 54.5% (6-for-11) from three-point range before halftime, en route to building a 48-39 lead before the buzzer. King's mounted a comeback in the second half and came to within three points of the Blue Jays late in the game before Etown put the contest away. Jon Connor (Hershey, PA/Hershey) was Etown's leading scorer with 29 points, and he tied the Elizabethtown record for most three-pointers in a game by hitting seven out of ten attempts from downtown. He shot 10-for-15 from the field as well, pulled down six rebounds, and he led the team in steals with five. Kyle Conrad (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) added 22 points to the Blue Jays' total and grabbed five rebounds, and Dan Keane (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) scored 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field and pulled down five rebounds. Etown's top rebounder was Ian Daecher (Lititz, PA/Warwick) with nine, and he added six points. Jamar Stokes led King's in scoring with 20 points, and Landon Gabriel came off the bench to chip in 15 points for the Monarchs. Dannie Evans and Brian Horgan each added 14 points for King's. Etown will return to action Saturday, January 3 in the Springfield College (MA) Naismith Classic. Etown will take on Bowdoin in the first round at 5:30 p.m. 12/19/03 7:30 pm at Wilkes-Barre, Pa. |
