ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Elizabethtown Falls to Catholic 61-42 in CUA Classic Championship Game; Etown’s Kris Kieres & Luke Ledyard Named to All-Tournament Team
WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Elizabethtown College dropped to 6-6 overall with a 61-42 road loss to Catholic University Sunday evening in the championship game of the Catholic University of America Classic, while the tournament hosts improved to 10-2 overall with the win. Elizabethtown seniors Kris Kieres (Barnesville, PA/Mahanoy Area) and Luke Ledyard (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson) were named to the all-tournament team. Catholic pulled out to a 32-22 lead by halftime and outscored the Blue Jays 29-20 in the second half. The host Cardinals held a 38-34 edge in rebounding.
Ledyard led Elizabethtown in scoring with nine points, and he had three rebounds. Chad Piersol (Elverson, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and Phil Schaffer (Marmora, NJ/ Ocean City) led Elizabethtown in rebounds with four each, and Piersol scored six points. Kieres added seven points as he shot 3-for-4 from the field and 1-for-1 from the free throw line. Brian Goodwin (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) led the Blue Jays in assists with five. Patrick Dwyer led Catholic in scoring with 17 points and in rebounds with 11. Scott Fumai added 14 points for the Cardinals, and Sean Stolzenthaler added 10 points. Elizabethtown will return to action at home Wednesday, January 10 against Commonwealth Conference rival Messiah College in an 8:00 p.m. game. At Washington, D.C. |
