ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL
Elizabethtown Falls 69-53 to Widener
CHESTER , Pa. --- Elizabethtown College dropped to 8-14 overall and 3-9 in the Commonwealth Conference with a 69-53 home loss to Widener University Saturday. The host Pride improved to 12-10 overall and 7-5 in the conference with the win.
Luke Ledyard (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson) led Elizabethtown in scoring with 16 points, in steals with five, and tied for the team lead in rebounds with five. He shot 8-for-13 from the field. Greg Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) added 13 points and led the Blue Jays in assists with five. He shot 6-for-8 from the field and 1-for-2 from three-point range. Kris Kieres (Barnesville, PA/Mahanoy Area) also had five rebounds for Elizabethtown, and Chad Piersol (Elverson, PA/Owen J. Roberts) added seven points. Michael Schatzmann (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) scored eight points, had four steals and totaled four assists.
Terry Smith led Widener in scoring with 15 points, in rebounds with eight and in blocks with four. He shot 7-for-8 from the field. As a team, Widener went 25-for-49 (51%) from the field. Nyere Miller added 13 points and five rebounds, and he made eight steals for Widener and hit three out of five three-point attempts. Bobby Edmunds and Malcolm Thomas each scored 10 points from Widener, and Thomas had six rebounds and a team-best total of four assists.
Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Tuesday, February 13 at Messiah College in an 8:00 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
