ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Fifth-Ranked Ohio Northern Wins Elizabethtown Days Inn East Blue Jay Classic with 76-60 Win over Host; DeSales Downs PSU-Harrisburg 119-49 in Consolation Game ELIZABETHTOWN , Pa. --- Nationally fifth-ranked Ohio Northern University defeated tournament host Elizabethtown College 76-60 in the championship game of the Days Inn East Blue Jay Classic Saturday, while DeSales University defeated Penn State-Harrisburg 119-49 in the consolation game. In the consolation game, DeSales (1-1) stormed out to a 65-21 lead over Penn State-Harrisburg (0-3) by halftime. Steve Kriczky (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) led DeSales in scoring with 19 points, while Matt Zwetolitz (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) scored 13 points in just five minutes from off the bench for DeSales. He shot 4-for-5 from the field, 1-for-1 from three-point range, and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Ed Lapinski (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) added 11 points from off the bench for DeSales. Nealy Rawlings (Roxborough H.S.) scored 20 points for Penn State-Harrisburg, and Abe Hitz (Annville-Cleona H.S.) scored 17 points for Penn State-Harrisburg. In the championship game, Elizabethtown (1-1) pulled ahead to an early 25-8 lead with 7:45 left in the first half before Ohio Northern (2-0) mounted a comeback to claim a 31-29 advantage by halftime. Elizabethtown again went on a streak in the beginning of the second half and pulled ahead 43-33 with 13:48 left in the game. Ohio Northern went ahead to stay, 44-43, at 11:55 left. Greg Badenhop (Liberty Center, OH) led Ohio Northern in scoring wit 25 points, and Kyle Gehle (Versailles, OH) scored 22 points for the Polar Bears. Bart Hostetler (Strasburg, OH/Strasburg-Franklin) added 17 points from off the bench and led ONU in rebounds with eight and in steals with eight. Michael Schatzmann (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) was Etown’s top scorer with 11 points, and he led the team in blocked shots with three. Kris Kieres (Barnesville, PA/Mahanoy Area) added 10 points for Etown, and Bryce Rodgers (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro Area) also scored 10 points. Brian Goodwin (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) added nine points, three assists and a team-leading total of three steals, while Mike Church (Peach Bottom, PA/Solanco) led Etown in rebounds with five while scoring seven points from off the bench. The all-tournament team was announced at the conclusion of the championship game. Penn State-Harrisburg’s Hitz, DeSales’ Kriczky, Elizabethtown’s Kieres and Goodwin, and ONU’s Badenhop and Hostetler all earned all-tournament honors. Hostetler was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2006 Days Inn East Blue Jay Classic. Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Tuesday, November 21 against Lycoming in a 3:00 p.m. game.
