LYCOMING WINS SPRINT CLASSIC WITH 83-65 WIN OVER ETOWN; JAYS' WINNING STREAK SNAPPED AT EIGHT ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Rasheed Campbell scored a team-high 20 points and Brian Lindsay added 17 points, including five three-pointers, to lead Lycoming over Elizabethtown, 83-65, in the championship game of the Sprint Blue Jay Classic on Saturday. With the loss, the Blue Jays fell to 9-2 on the season and saw their winning streak snapped at eight games. In the Sprint Classic consolation game, Ferrum (3-9) broke a three-game losing streak with a 78-61 win over Dickinson (2-7). Mark Sweet (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) led the Etown effort with 13 points and four rebounds while Kevin Cristofoletti (Kendall Park, N.J./Notre Dame) chipped in with nine points. After Matt Nikoloff (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) scored with 12:52 remaining in the second half to cut Lycoming's lead to 59-50, the Blue Jays failed to score a point in the game's next 7:34, allowing the Warriors to stretch their lead to 69-50 before Chris Sattele's layup with 5:12 left. Lycoming scored the next six points to take a 75-52 lead and cruise to the championship. Lycoming's Kevin Rutherford was named the tournament's most valuable player after averaging 17.0 points and 14.5 rebounds per game in wins over Ferrum and Etown. Lindsay, Campbell and Sweet were named to the all-tournament squad along with Ferrum's Michael Hunter and Dickinson's Matt Shaffer. Etown returns to MAC Commonwealth League action
on Wednesday, January 13 at home against Lebanon Valley College.
The Flying Dutchmen enter the game at 10-0 and ranked No. 2 in Division
III by Columbus Multimedia. Game time is 8 p.m.
