ETOWN LOSES NON-LEAGUE DECISION AT ALVERNIA, 87-78; WEBER SCORES CAREER-HIGH 28 POINTS IN JAYS' FOURTH STRAIGHT LOSS READING, Pa. --- Adam Weber (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain) scored a career-high 28 points, including seven three-pointers, and A.J. Beamer (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) added 19 points, but Alvernia used a 55 percent shooting performance to defeat Elizabethtown, 87-78, in non-league action on Monday. With the loss, the Blue Jays fell to 12-8 on the season. Chad Kratzer led the Crusaders (11-9) with 22 points while All-America candidate Lonnie Walker tossed in 20 points and added a game-high 15 rebounds. Deotis Carolina chipped in with 17 points for Alvernia. Kevin Cristofoletti (Kendall Park, N.J./Notre Dame) scored nine points and Bob Porambo (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) added eight as Etown dropped its fourth consecutive game. The Blue Jays held a 26-20 lead with 7:15 left in the first half, but the Crusaders went on an 18-6 run to take a 38-32 edge into the locker room. Etown cut the deficit to 45-42 following a Weber three-pointer with 16:13 remaining, but Kratzer answered with a trey of his own and Drew Gosseaux scored on consecutive possessions to put Alvernia ahead 52-42 with 14:29 left. The Blue Jays could get no closer than seven points the rest of the way. Etown shot only 42.2 percent from the field on the night, but was 9-for-18 (50.0 percent) from behind the three-point line. Weber's previous scoring high was a 25-point outing at Delaware Valley on November 24, 1998. The Blue Jays return to action on Wednesday,
February 10 at Lebanon Valley College. Game time is 8 p.m.
