ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL
BLUE JAYS FALL TO NATIONALLY-RANKED WILKES, 87-69, IN TIPOFF CHAMPIONSHIP; WEBER, SCHMOYER NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT CARLISLE, Pa. --- Dave Jannuzzi scored a tournament-record 36 points, including eight three-pointers, to lead nationally-ranked Wilkes to an 87-69 victory over Elizabethtown in the championship game of the Pizza Hut Tipoff Classic at Dickinson College on Sunday. With the loss, the Blue Jays fell to 1-1 on the season. Brian Schmoyer (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) led Etown with 19 points while Mark Sweet (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) added 15 points and Adam Weber (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain) chipped in with 12. Both Schmoyer and Weber were named to the all-Tournament team. Scott Cleveland also keyed the Wilkes offense with 17 points and a team-best six rebounds. The Colonels (2-0), a national semifinalist in 1998, shot 26-for-45 (57.8 percent) for the game, including 13-for-20 (65.0) from behind the three-point line. Down 68-46 with 9:04 left in the game, Etown went on a 21-7 run that cut the Wilkes advantage to 75-67 with three minutes remaining. The Colonels, however, regrouped to scored 12 of the game's final 14 points and lock up the tournament title. The Blue Jays return to action on Tuesday,
November 24 at Delaware Valley College. Game time is 8 p.m.
