ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Albright picked up its second close win of the
season over Elizabethtown with a 66-61 victory at Etown's Thompson Gymnasium
Saturday. When the teams first met at Albright December 4, the Lions won
in overtime 103-100. The win runs regionally second-ranked Albright's
record to 14-3 overall and 8-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth.
Elizabethtown sinks to 9-9 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
Albright jumped out to an early 17-9 lead, but Elizabethtown managed climb
back into the game and gain the lead with 4:56 remaining in the first
half. By halftime, Etown led 37-31. Beginning with 10:23 remaining in
the game, Albright embarked on a four minute, eleven-point unanswered
scoring run and took the lead to stay. A field goal from Elizabethtown's
Brian Loftus (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) with just over two minutes
remaining made the score 62-61 in Albright's favor, but Albright pulled
ahead again in the game's closing minutes.
Elizabethtown's Ross Unruh (Denver, PA/Cocalico) led the scoring with
19 points and shot a perfect 10 for 10 from the foul line. Bob Porambo
(Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) scored 18 points, and Mark Sweet (Sadsburyville,
PA/Coatesville) pulled down five rebounds to move into ninth place on
Elizabethtown's career rebounding list with 638.
Shawn Swavely (Reading, PA/Central Catholic) led Albright with 16 points.
James Drewery (Silver Spring, MD/Montgomery Blair) added 13 points, and
Mark Moritz (Philadelphia, PA/St. John Newmann) led the team with 10 rebounds.
Etown returns to action on the road against Messiah Tuesday, February
1. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
