SWEET SCORES 30 POINTS, GRABS 19 REBOUNDS AS ETOWN FALLS TO SCRANTON, 76-69, IN MAC QUARTERFINALS

SCRANTON, Pa. --- Mark Sweet (Sadsburyville, PA/Coatesville) ended his Elizabethtown basketball career with a bang as he reached career single game highs of 30 points and 19 rebounds as Elizabethtown fell to Scranton, 76-69, in the quarterfinal round of the Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs. Etown closes out the season 13-12 overall, while Scranton advances to the semifinals with a 16-9 overall record.

Etown entered the second half with a 33-32 lead, but fell behind by six with 12:11 to go in the game. Scranton progressively pulled further ahead, building a 76-60 lead with 1:45 remaining. Elizabethtown scored nine unanswered points to end the game, but came up seven short.

Sweet shot 9 for 13 from the field in the second half as he scored 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the second stanza. Ross Unruh (Denver, PA/Cocalico) totaled 19 points, and Brian Loftus (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) led the Blue Jays with five assists.

Leading Scranton in scoring was Derek Elphick with 19 points. Elphick and Kevin Courtney led the Royals with 11 rebounds each, and Dan Loftus had six assists for the Royals.
