Goucher Downs Etown, 9-3

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown fell 9-3 at home to Goucher Wednesday as the Blue Jays dropped to 5-6 overall with the loss. Goucher improves to 7-6 overall with the non-conference win.

Goucher got the first goal at 13:51 remaining in the first quarter as Patrick Tracy Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's) scored off an assist from Brian Engelhart (Huntington, NY/St. Dominic). Etown struck back with a Bryan Miller (West Chester, PA/Henderson) goal off a pass from Allen Churchman (Aston, PA/Garnet Valley) at 8:20 to tie the score 1-1. The Blue Jays took a 2-1 lead at 3:48 when Matt Newell (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) scored unassisted. Goucher tied the score at 2-2 with 1:13 left in the first quarter on a Travis Witham (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) goal.

The only goal of the second quarter was scored with 9:42 remaining by Goucher's Ian Montgomery (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) off an assist from Ashley Tarran-Jones (Manchester, England/Stockport Grammar), giving the Gophers a 3-2 lead going into halftime.

Two unassisted Montgomery goals at 14:11 and 8:34 remaining in the third quarter gave Goucher a 5-2 lead, and Churchman responded at 4:57 with an unassisted goal for the Blue Jays to cut the lead to 5-3. From there, Goucher scored four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Chris McCrea (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) led Etown in ground balls with five, and Newell added four ground balls. Etown narrowly out-shot Goucher 24-23, and the Blue Jays held a 40-32 advantage in ground balls. Each team won five face-offs, and neither team was able to capitalize on their extra man opportunities, of which Etown had seven and Goucher had six.

Etown returns to action on the road in a Middle Atlantic Conference game against Lycoming Saturday, April 19. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
