ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S LACROSSE Etown Gets First Win of Season, 9-8 over Swarthmore ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown shook off a rusty performance in the first half to come from behind and defeat Swarthmore 9-8 at home Wednesday, giving the Blue Jays their first win of the season and their first win ever over Swarthmore in four meetings. Etown is now 1-4 overall and Swarthmore is 1-2 overall. Swarthmore held a 6-2 lead early in the third quarter, but Etown began chipping away at the Garnet's lead with 9:09 left in the third quarter when a Brian Ginter (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) touched off a 5-0 run that lasted for the next 16 minutes. Bryan Miller (West Chester, PA/Henderson) tied the game at 6-6 with a goal for Etown with 11:29 left in the fourth quarter, and the Blue Jays went up 7-6 at 8:34 when Allen Churchman (Aston, PA/Garnet Valley) scored. A goal by Swarthmore's Tim Chryssikos, his fifth of the game, tied the score at 7-7 with 7:57 remaining. A Rob Towe (Hockessin, DE/A.I. DuPont) goal with 7:00 left put Etown up 8-7, but Swarthmore tied the game again with 5:56 left when Jeff Donlea scored. Justin Griffey (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen) scored what turned out to be the game-winner with 3:32 left to give the Blue Jays a 9-8 lead. Towe and Churchman both led Etown in scoring with two goals each, and Churchman had a team high of two assists. Churchman also led Etown in ground balls with seven. Chryssikos led Swarthmore in goals with five, and John Charles had a team high of five assists.
