ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S LACROSSE Etown Finishes Regular Season With 21-11 Win over DeSales; Matt Newell Scores 100th Career Goal; Blue Jays to Face FDU-Florham in Playoffs Monday CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior attacker Matt Newell (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) became the first Etown men's lacrosse player in the four-year history of the program to reach the 100 career goal plateau Saturday as the Blue Jays defeated DeSales University 21-11 on the road. Etown improved to 8-7 overall and 7-3 in the Middle Atlantic Conference with the win in the regular season's final game, while DeSales dropped to 3-12 overall and 1-9 in the MAC. Etown's 21 goals in the game was the most it has scored in a single contest all season and fell one goal shy of the program record. The Blue Jays led 11-2 at the half. Newell led Etown in scoring with five goals to bring his career total to 102. He also assisted another goal for a team-high total of six points on the day. Chris Harrison (Newark, DE/Salesanium) scored four goals and had one assist for the Blue Jays, and Dave Eshleman (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) scored three goals and had one assist. Justin Griffey (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen) scored two goals and had two assists, and Justin McQuaid (Chester Heights, PA/Garnet Valley) scored a pair of goals as well. Matt Seiboth (Havertown, PA/Haverford) had one goal and two assists for Etown, and Frankie Puzzangara (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) and Ryan Smetana (Conowingo, MD/John Carroll) each scored one goal and had one assist. Allen Churchman (Aston, PA/Garnet Valley) and Bryan Miller (West Chester, PA/Henderson) each scored one goal. Gary Senese (West Chester, PA/Tatnall) led Etown in ground balls with eight, and he had one assist. Brian Ginter (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) led Etown in assists with three. Brian Kuttler led DeSales in goals scored with four, and Chris Laveglia and Frank Przybylski each scored three goals for the Bulldogs. Jay Young added one goal. Elizabethtown, which has clinched a berth in the Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs for the second year in a row, will host a post-season game for the first time in its four-year history Monday, May 2, when the Blue Jays host FDU-Florham at 4:00 p.m. Elizabethtown Coll.
