Etown Defeats Drew 15-12, Improves to 2-1 in MAC

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 2-6 overall and 2-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference with a 15-12 home win over Drew University Saturday. Drew dropped to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the MAC with the loss.

Etown midfielder Jeff Cowan (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) scored the game’s opening goal 4:18 into the first quarter. By the end of the quarter, the game was tied 2-2. Elizabethtown led 8-5 by halftime and extended its lead to 13-8 by the end of the third quarter. Drew rallied for four goals while holding Etown to two in the fourth quarter. Over the course of the game, Drew held a 43-40 advantage in shots and a 42-34 edge in ground balls.

Frankie Puzzangara (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) led Etown in goals with four, and he had two assists for a total of six points. He also totaled four ground balls for the game. Brad Whitcomb (Taneytown, MD/Francis Scott Key) added three goals and one assist for the Blue Jays, and Chris Harrison (Newark, DE/Salesianum) scored one goal and assisted three others. Cowan and Tom Welch (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) each scored two goals for Etown, and defenseman Gary Senese (West Chester, PA/Tatnall School) scored one goal and had one assist. Drew Ward (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) led Etown in ground balls with five.

Gil Arbitsman led Drew in scoring with four goals, and Phil Rosenau and Dan Moffo each scored twice for the Rangers. Rosenau also led Drew in ground balls with seven, while Moffo had six. Cory Helly had one goal and one assist for Drew, and Robert Budziszewski, Tom Stitt and Josh Mirrer each scored one goal for the Rangers.

Elizabethtown will return to action at home Wednesday, April 5 against MAC rival Messiah College in a 4:00 p.m. game.
