Nationally 10th-Ranked Washington College (Md.) Defeats Elizabethtown 16-2

CHESTERTOWN, Md. --- Elizabethtown College dropped to 1-1 in 2007 with a 16-2 road loss to nationally 10th-ranked Washington College (Md.) Wednesday. Washington improved to 2-1 overall with the win.

Elizabethtown’s Chris Senese (Leonardtown, MD/Uniontown) scored the game’s first goal unassisted 3:01 after the opening whistle. By the end of the first quarter, Washington held a 2-1 lead. The Shoremen scored three more goals at the start of the second quarter before Etown struck again with 4:52 left in the first half, courtesy of Josh Dougherty (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep.). By the end of the second quarter, Washington College held a 7-2 lead, which extended to 9-2 by the end of the third quarter and 16-2 by the end of the game. Chris Day (Thornton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and Gary Senese (Leonardtown, MD/Tatnall School, DE) led Elizabethtown in ground balls with five each.

Chris Read (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin) led Washington College in scoring with five goals, and he had one assist. Jimmy Kielek (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) led the Shoremen in assists with four, and he scored one goal. Thayer Damm (Huntington Valley, PA/LaSalle) led Washington in ground balls with six, and he won eight out of 12 faceoffs taken. Washington goalie Gordon Cohen (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) made 16 saves.

Elizabethtown will return to action Saturday, March 10, when the Blue Jays will host College Misericordia in a game held at HersheyPark Stadium in Hershey, Pa. Game time is 11:00 a.m.
