Elizabethtown Blows Out Misericordia 19-3

HERSHEY, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College improved to 2-1 overall with a 19-3 defeat of College Misericordia (0-2) at HersheyPark Stadium Saturday. The Blue Jays cruised out to a 7-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back, pushing the lead to 11-2 by halftime and 17-3 by the end of the third quarter. Elizabethtown out-shot Misericordia 43-22 and held a 50-15 edge in ground balls. Misericordia had 13 penalties totaling 11 minutes, while Elizabethtown had eight penalties totaling 5:30.

First-year attacker Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Twp.) finished the game leading Elizabethtown in points with nine, in assists with five, and in a tie for the team lead in goals scored with four. Frankie Puzzangara (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) also scored four goals for Etown, and he led the Blue Jays in ground balls with 12 and won seven out of eight face-off attempts. Andrew Wagner (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) totaled three goals, four assists and seven points for Etown, and Chris Senese (Leonardtown, MD/Unionville) scored three goals and had one assist. Keith Staulters (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) scored twice, and Brad Whitcomb (Taneytown, MD/Francis Scott Key), Gary Senese (Leonardtown, MD/Tatnall School, DE) and Bobby Freed (Quakertown, PA/Wyoming Seminary) each scored one goal for Elizabethtown. John Day (Thornton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) had two assists for the Blue Jays.

Mike Chisolm (Wescosville, PA/Emmaus) scored all three of Misericordia’s goals, and Seth Swiatkowski (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) tallied one assist. Carmine Vignola (New Market, MD/St. John’s) led Misericordia in ground balls with four.

Elizabethtown will return to action at home Saturday, March 17 against defending Middle Atlantic Conference champion Widener University in a 12:00 p.m. game.
