Elizabethtown Falls to Lycoming 9-8

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College dropped to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the Middle Atlantic Conference with a 9-8 road loss to Lycoming College Tuesday. It was the Blue Jays third consecutive game decided by a one-goal margin. Lycoming improved to 3-8 overall and 3-4 in the MAC with the win.

Neither team scored in the first quarter, and Lycoming took a 4-3 lead going into halftime. By the end of the third quarter, Elizabethtown held the lead, 6-5. Lycoming took a 7-6 lead in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, scoring goals at 14:06 and 11:40. Etown tied the score 7-7 with 9:45 left in the fourth when Josh Dougherty ( Ocean City, MD/ Worcester Prep.) scored unassisted. The Blue Jays went up 8-7 with 7:42 left to play as Frankie Puzzangara (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) scored an unassisted goal. With 3:43 left in the game, Lycoming’s Jim Cusick scored to tie it 8-8, and Tom Nairn scored the game-winner for the host Warriors with just 25 seconds left on the clock.

Lycoming out-shot Elizabethtown 44-34, but Elizabethtown held a 40-33 edge in ground balls. Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) led the Blue Jays in scoring with three goals and one assist for four points, and Puzzangara scored twice. Elizabethtown goaltender Chris Schuch (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) made 17 saves and scooped up three ground balls.

Cusick led Lycoming in scoring with three goals and one assist for four points, and Nairn scored a pair of goals. Lycoming goalie Kyle Gilfoy made 14 saves and had eight ground balls.

Elizabethtown will return to action at home against Middle Atlantic Conference rival Moravian College in a 1:00 p.m. game Saturday, April 21.
