Blue Jays Stifle Scranton 10-3

SCRANTON, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College held the University of Scranton to its lowest goal total of the season in a 10-3 Middle Atlantic Conference road win at Scranton Wednesday. Elizabethtown improves to 9-4 overall and 6-3 in the MAC with the win, while Scranton drops to 7-7 overall and 5-4 in the conference with the loss.

Elizabethtown held a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, extended it to 6-2 by halftime, and held a 7-2 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Blue Jays out-shot Scranton 32-23, and Etown won 15 out of 18 face-offs in the game.

Frankie Puzzangara (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) led Elizabethtown in goals with four and in ground balls with eight, and he had one assist. He also won six out of eight face-offs. Ryan McCafferty (Orlando, FL/William R. Boone) scored twice for Etown, and Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) scored one goal and led the Blue Jays in assists with two while scooping up five ground balls. Josh Dougherty (Ocean City, MD/ Worcester Prep.) scored one goal and had one assist, and Andrew Wagner (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) and Bobby Freed (Quakertown, PA/Wyoming Seminary) each added one goal. John Day (Thornton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) had one assist and won eight out of nine face-offs for Etown.

Scranton’s top scorer was Dan Stallone with two goals, and Phil Linder added one goal for Scranton. Joe Flynn led the host Royals in ground balls with eight.

Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Saturday, April 28 at 1:00 p.m. against MAC rival DeSales University in the final game of the regular season.
