Blue Jays Win 17-9 at King's, But Eliminated from Playoff Race

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- With their Middle Atlantic Conference playoff hopes on the line, the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team defeated King's College 17-9 on Saturday afternoon.

However, the Blue Jays were eliminated from the postseason as Lycoming College defeated FDU-Florham, giving FDU the fourth and final playoff spot via tiebreaker over the Blue Jays.

Junior Ryan McCafferty (Orlando, FL/Boone) and sophomore Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) each finished with five goals in the win for the Blue Jays (6-8 overall, 4-3 MAC), who set a season high for goals in the victory.

Sophomore Jon Day (Thornton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) had three goals and first-year student Kurt Deschner (Kelowna, BC/Kelowna Secondary) added two goals and two assists.

Elizabethtown trailed 5-4 after one quarter, but scored six straight goals in the second period to take a 10-5 lead to intermission. The Blue Jays held an 11-8 lead after three quarters, but fired home six more goals in the final quarter.

The Blue Jays peppered 62 shots at the Monarch goal, and finished with a 50-27 edge in ground balls. Day led the Blue Jays with eight ground balls while senior Eric Peifer (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) added seven ground balls.

Chris Landry led the Monarchs (4-9 overall, 0-7 MAC) with four goals and an assist, as King's finished the season with seven losses in its final eight games.

Senior Chris Schuch (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) made two saves in his final appearance in a Blue Jay uniform, departing as the program's career leader in saves with 460. First-year student Hunter Malick (Center Valley, PA/Moravian Academy) relieved in the third quarter and added four saves for Elizabethtown, while Andrew Bartle finished with 22 saves in goal for the Monarchs.
