CHRISTIAN NETS ANOTHER GOLDEN GOAL AS ETOWN TOPPLES MUHLENBERG, 2-1, IN KEY REGIONAL MATCHUPELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Dave Christian scored in the 11th minute of sudden death overtime to give Elizabethtown a 2-1 win over Muhlenberg in Mid-Atlantic region action on Wednesday. With the win, the Blue Jays toppled their second consecutive Top 25 opponent and improved to 3-3 on the season.
Etown's Joe Franc scored the game-tying goal to pick up a point in his fifth consecutive game. Bryan Hoy and Adam Dively each chipped in with one assist.
Christian hit the crossbar with his initial header, but the ball rebounded back to the senior captain, who found the back of the net with his second attempt to give the Jays their second overtime victory of 1998. Since the "golden goal" was instituted in 1997, Christian has scored three of the program's four overtime gamewinners.
Franc drove home his team-high fifth goal of the season in the 69th minute to pull the Jays even at 1-1.
Muhlenberg opened the scoring when Ron Russo found the back of the net at the 22:12 mark off a pass from Ben Hoffman.
Doug Timm made five saves to pick up his third win of the season for Etown. Travis Wood stopped nine shots for the Mules (3-2).
The win was the fourth straight for the Blue Jays over Muhlenberg, which entered the game ranked No. 13 in Division III. Etown holds a 14-5-2 advantage in the all-time series.
The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday,
September 19 at home against Widener University. Game time is 1 p.m.
