ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER
HELSEL HITS CENTURY MARK AS ETOWN DOWNS EASTERN, 5-0; JAYS AT DREW FOR MAC SEMIS ON WEDNESDAY
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Five different Blue Jays scored goals as Elizabethtown blanked Eastern, 5-0, in Mid-Atlantic regional action on Saturday. With the win, the Jays wrapped up their regular season with a 14-5 record.
Scott Fisher scored on a goalmouth scramble in the fifth minute to put Etown ahead 1-0. Chris Helsel added an insurance goal early in the second half to become the 11th player in program history to score at least 100 career points. Helsel has tallied 34 goals and 100 points in his collegiate career.
Bryan Hoy, Joe Franc and Brian McKinney added goals in the final 15 minutes to help the Jays improve to 9-1 at home and 13-1 in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Doug Timm made five saves to post his eighth shutout of the season while the Blue Jay defense shut down Eastern forward Patrick Laurent, who entered the contest as the nation's leading scorer with 29 goals and 4.00 points per game.
Etown opens the Middle Atlantic Conference
playoffs on Wednesday, November 4 with a semifinal match at Drew University.
