ETOWN BLANKS MANCHESTER, 3-0, IN FIRST ROUND OF BLUE JAY CLASSIC TOURNAMENT; URSINUS ALSO WINS

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Blue Jays cruised past Manchester (IN) in the first round of the Blue Jay Classic Men's Soccer Tournament Saturday, winning 3-0.  Goaltenders Doug Timm (Wilmington, DE/McKean) and Matt Gwilliam (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) combined on the shutout for Elizabethtown.

Elizabethtown (3-0-1) opened the scoring early when freshman Brad Confer (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) hit the upper corner of Manchester's goal just three minutes into the game.  It was the first goal of Confer's collegiate career.  Tim Oswald (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) followed with another goal four minutes later in a blast off the corner.  Oswald made it a pair of goals for the day when he headed the ball in at 56:28.  Brian Hoy (Beaver Springs, PA/West Snyder) had two assists in the game.

The game also marked the meeting of two Elizabethtown alums as head coaches.  The Blue Jays are coached by Skip Roderick, a 1974 Elizabethtown graduate, and the Manchester Spartans (2-2) are coached by David Good, a member of Elizabethtown's class of 1972.

In the opening game of the tournament, Ursinus (2-3) staged a dramatic come-from-behind, 3-2, victory over King's (2-2).  A pair of goals put the King's squad ahead 2-0 by the first minute of the second period.  The Bears fought back, scoring a goal at 65 minutes into the game and adding two more in the final ten minutes to win.

King's will play Manchester in the third-place game of the Blue Jay Classic at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.  Elizabethtown will square off against Ursinus for the tournament title at 3:00 p.m.
