ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER
Saturday, November 6, 1999
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown won its first Middle
Atlantic Conference Championship since 1996 and the 18th in the history
of the program by defeating Lycoming, 2-0, Saturday.
Despite a sluggish first half in which Etown outshot Lycoming only
5-4, the Blue Jays managed to take a lead into halftime as a result
of a goal scored at 40 minutes by Darius Goss (Haverford, PA/Haverford).
Etown exploded in the second half, firing off seven shots while holding
Lycoming to only one. However, the Blue Jays got only one more goal
past Lycoming keeper Brent Snyder, who made five saves. Bryan Hoy (Beaver
Springs, PA/West Snyder) scored at the 68 minute mark to close out the
game at 2-0.
Etown goaltender Doug Timm (Wilmington, DE/McKean) made three saves
for the Blue Jays' fifteenth shutout of the season.
Despite winning the MAC Championship, Etown (18-1-1) must still wait
for the announcement of the NCAA Tournament bracket Sunday night to
see whether it receives an at-large bid to go to the NCAA Tournament.
Messiah and Drew, the winners of the MAC's two divisions, have already
received automatic bids.
