Wednesday, September 6, 2000 ETOWN DEFEATS F & M, 3-0, TO RETAIN POSSESSION OF SMITH-HERR "BRONZE BOOT" ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown opened its season with a 3-0 home victory over local rival Franklin and Marshall (1-1) Wednesday to retain possession of the Smith-Herr "Bronze Boot" Trophy. Established in 1978, the trophy is "to memorialize the two men who did so much for soccer at their respective schools." The Bronze Boot is a soccer shoe originally worn by Al Hershey, who was a two-time All-American at Etown (1962, 63) and later coached at both Etown (for one season - 1968) and F&M. Elizabethtown will play Washington and Jefferson at 2:00 p.m. The third place game is scheduled for noon Sunday, and the tournament championship will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. at Elizabethtown, Pa.
