ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown triumphed against Eastern in the late minutes of a 1-0 home game despite having a two man disadvantage against the Eagles, which are ranked tenth in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Elizabethtown (11-1) fought Eastern (10-5) to a 0-0 draw through an intensely physical first half of play and well into the second half. However, prospects looked dim for a Blue Jay victory after Elizabethtown drew a pair of red cards in the 76th and 77th minutes of the game and found itself reduced to having only nine men on the field against Eastern's eleven.
Elizabethtown managed to win the game in the 83rd minute when Blue Jay freshman Steve Custer (Baltimore MD/Dundalk) was fouled and knocked down while on a breakaway toward the Eastern goal, setting up a penalty kick. Bryan Hoy (Beaver Springs, PA/West Snyder) took the penalty kick and scored against Eastern goaltender A.J. Ortiz (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll).
Etown goaltenders Matt Gwilliam (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) and Nick Hostetter (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona) made two saves apiece to combine for the shutout.
Etown returns to action at home against Widener Wednesday, October 18. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
