Saturday, October 28, 2000 ETOWN FALLS TO MESSIAH IN GRANTHAM, Pa. --- Messiah retained possession of the Marshmallow Trophy with a 1-0 overtime victory against Elizabethtown Saturday. With the loss, Etown falls to 14-2 overall and 6-1 in the Commonwealth Conference. Messiah improves to 15-2-1 overall and 7-0 in the Commonwealth. The teams struggled through two halves of regulation time without scoring, despite many close calls. Messiah finally came out on top in the 101st minute when Mark Ackley scored a goal on an assist from Brandon Fisher. Etown goaltender Matt Gwilliam (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made nine saves for the Blue Jays, while Messiah goalie Chris Boyles had eight. The game was very evenly matched, with each team compiling ten shots over the course of the game. Messiah held a slight advantage in corner kicks with eight against five for Elizabethtown. Etown will play again in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs Wednesday, opponent to be determined. at Grantham, PA Scoring: |
