Etown Falls To Gettysburg, 2-1, in Overtime in Blue Jay Classic

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown fell to Gettysburg, 2-1 in overtime in the opening game of the John Smith RE/MAX Cornerstone Blue Jay Classic. The reeling Blue Jays fell to 0-3 overall with the loss. Gettysburg improved to 3-0 this season.

Gettysburg got on the board in the first half, when Michael Garea's (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) shot soared past Etown goalie Edwin Tichenor's (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) leap into the upper left corner of the goal only 9:14 into the game.

Elizabethtown tied the score at 76:20 when Charlie Haines (Hamilton, NJ/Hun School of Princeton) found the net on an assist from Steve Custer (Baltimore, MD/Dundalk). It was the Blue Jays' first goal of the season that did not come on a penalty kick.

The game was ended when Mike Bevilaqua scored for Gettysburg 8:45 into overtime.

For the second consecutive game, Elizabethtown had nearly double the shot total of its opponent, as the Blue Jays outshot Gettysburg 18-10. Gettysburg goaltender Steve Kopa made 11 saves, while Tichenor had eight for Etown.

The John Smith RE/MAX Cornerstone Blue Jay Classic will continue Saturday, September 8 when Gettysburg will face Skidmore at Ira R. Herr field at 2:00 p.m. The tournament concludes Sunday September 9, with Elizabethtown playing Skidmore at 1:00 p.m.
