Elizabethtown College Men's Soccer Wattenschaidt, Haines Strike Twice as Etown Defeats Greensboro (NC), 5-2 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 2-3 overall as Ryan Wattenschaidt (Jarretsville, MD/North Harford) and Charlie Haines (Hamilton, NJ/Hun School of Princeton) each scored twice to help lift the Blue Jays to a 5-2 win over Greensboro (NC) at home Sunday. Wattenschaidt scored both of his goals early, 1:35 and 4:52 into the game, to throw Greensboro, which entered the game 3-1 and had taken defending national champion Messiah down to the wire Saturday in a 3-2 loss, off balance for the next 25 minutes. Wattenschaidt scored his first goal after dribbling past Greensboro goalie Jeff Jones, and his second goal came unassisted on a shot that got past the goaltender. Haines scored on an assist from Brian Albrecht (Baltimore, MD/Patapsco) 30:26 into the game to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead. Greensboro got on the board with 6:08 left in the first half on a direct kick by Michael Smith. Greensboro narrowed the gap to 3-2 2:29 before halftime on a goal by Bucky Stevens. Haines scored his second goal just 2:57 into the second half to give Etown a 4-2 lead, and Steve Custer (Baltimore, MD/Dundalk) scored the final goal on an assist from Albrecht with 5:58 left in the game. Greensboro, which actually outshot Etown 13-11 and had six corner kicks against three for the Blue Jays, was thwarted in its offensive efforts by first-year Etown goaltender Edwin Tichenor (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley), who made five saves.
