Blue Jays Blast Alvernia, 9-1

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown, the sixth-ranked team in the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Region, won a 9-1 blowout at home against Alvernia (5-6) Saturday night to improve to 6-1-2 overall.

Charlie Haines (Hamilton, NJ/Hun School of Princeton) put Etown on the board first with a goal off a pass from Brian Healy (Newark, DE/A.I. DuPont at 2:48. Healy took a pass from Tim Filewicz (Wenonah, NJ/Deptford) to the back of the net at 38:01, and Chris Boushell (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) gave Etown a 3-0 lead 15 seconds before halftime with a goal on a pass from Bryan Noll (Fleetwood, PA/Oley Valley).

Haines had the first goal of the second half as well, scoring at 49:01 off an assist from Drew Wiley (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township). Andrew Kummerer (Glenmoore, PA/Coatesville) scored on a pass from Sean Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) at 50:24 to give Etown a 5-0 lead.

The Blue Jays went up 6-0 on an goal by Chris Graham (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) at 54:28, the first of his collegiate career. He was assisted by Zach Eddinger (Middletown, CT/Middletown). Wiley struck with a goal of his own at 56:57 off an assist from Jamie Cook (Havertown, PA/Haverford School). Wiley scored again at 66:26, this time on a penalty kick set up when John Aronowicz (Exton, PA/Downingtown) was fouled in the box. Will Ellerman (Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) scored his first collegiate goal at 84:12 off an assist from Phil Brynildsen (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) to give Etown a 9-0 lead.

Etown lost its shutout bid with 1:06 remaining in the game when Alvernia's Andrew Dornes (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) scored.

The Blue Jays out-shot Alvernia 30-7, and had seven corner kicks against none for the visiting Crusaders.

Etown will return to action on the road Wednesday, October 2 against Commonwealth Conference rival Lebanon Valley at 4:00 p.m.
