Etown Defeats College of New Jersey, 3-1

EWING, N.J. --- Elizabethtown improved to 9-2-3 overall with a 3-1 road win over the College of New Jersey Saturday, October 12. The College of New Jersey dropped to 7-4-2 overall with the loss.

Charlie Haines (Hamilton, NJ/Hun School of Princeton) scored the first goal of the game for Etown off an assist from Brian Albrecht (Baltimore, MD/Patapsco) 26:09 after the beginning of play. Etown took a 2-0 lead when Haines struck again with another goal off an assist from Timothy Filewicz (Wenonah, NJ/Deptford) at 28:45, and the Blue Jays held their 2-0 advantage through halftime.

The College of New Jersey cut Etown's lead to 2-1 at 57:52 when Blayne Adams scored on an assist from Brian Rostron. Etown went up 3-1 with just over two minutes left in the game when Ryan Wattenschaidt (Jarrettsville, MD/North Harford) scored off an assist from goaltender Edwin Tichenor (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley). Amazingly, it was the second collegiate assist for Tichenor, who is only a sophomore and has never spent a minute at any position for the Blue Jays other than in the goal.

Tichenor made four saves for the Blue Jays, and College of New Jersey goaltender Shawn Mecchi made eight stops. Etown out-shot the College of New Jersey 13-7.

Elizabethtown will return to action at home Wednesday, October 16 against Commonwealth Conference rival Susquehanna in a 7:00 p.m. game.
