Moravian Shocks Etown with 2-0 Win over Blue Jays in Commonwealth Conference Semifinals, Greyhounds 1st Win against Etown Since 1970
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Wednesday night's Commonwealth Conference semifinal game between fourth-seeded Moravian and first-seeded Etown got underway an hour behind schedule due to officials getting hung up in a traffic jam behind an accident.
By the end of the late night, Elizabethtown was left wishing it hadn't gotten underway at all. Moravian stunned the 25th ranked Blue Jays with a 2-0 win at Herr Field - Moravian's first win over the Blue Jays since 1970, and its first win against Etown in the last 19 meetings between the teams. Moravian advances to Saturday's conference championship game and improves to 11-7-2 overall with the win, while Etown drops to 14-3-3.
After a scoreless first half in which Etown controlled the game and out-shot Moravian 11-1, the Greyhounds took over in the second half out-shooting the Blue Jays 7-3, with Elizabethtown's three shots coming in the game's final few minutes. Ryan Fick scored Moravian's first goal at 60:00, and Wilson Gonzalez tacked on an insurance goal for the Greyhounds at 72:54.
