ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER Sunday, September 19, 2004 Etown Edges Penn State-Altoona, 1-0, Behind Noll Goal and Six Tichenor Saves ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Playing one day later than originally scheduled due to wet field conditions Saturday in the aftermath of remnants from Hurricane Ivan, Elizabethtown defeated Penn State-Altoona at home Sunday 1-0 to improve to 3-1-2 overall in 2004. Penn State-Altoona drops to 2-3-1 overall with the loss. In a close game, Elizabethtown held a 10-9 advantage in shots. Only five of Etown's shots were on goal, however, while six of PSU-Altoona's shots were on goal. Etown keeper Edwin Tichenor (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) made six saves in the Blue Jay net to preserve the shutout and the victory. Etown got its only goal 27:32 into the game when Bryan Noll (Fleetwood, PA/Oley Valley) scored his second goal of the season off a cross pass from Brian Healy (Newark, DE/A.I. DuPont) that was fed by Josh Hoffman (Schaefferstown, PA/ELCO). Etown clung to its lead throughout the second half despite the fact that Penn State-Altoona fired off six of its nine shots and four of its six shots on goal after halftime. PSU-Altoona missed perhaps its best scoring opportunity with just three minutes left in the game when a Jonathan Preusser shot on an open Etown net went wide. Etown narrowly missed a scoring opportunity of its own just 12 minutes into the game when a shot by Hoffman caromed off the crossbar of the PSU-Altoona goal. Etown will return to action on the road Wednesday, September 22 at Lebanon Valley College at 4:00 p.m. It will be the first Commonwealth Conference game of Etown's season. Penn State-Altoona (2-3-1) vs. Elizabethtown (3-1-2) Shots: Penn State-Altoona 9, Elizabethtown Coll. 10
