Etown Gets 699th All-Time Victory With 1-0 Overtime Win Over Moravian
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College's men's soccer program registered its 699th all-time victory Saturday night when it defeated Moravian College 1-0 in overtime at home in a Commonwealth Conference game. The win improves Etown to 11-2-3 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference, while Moravian drops to 7-7-1 overall and 1-4 in the Commonwealth. It was Etown's fourth conference game this season to go into overtime.
Brian Healy (Newark, DE/A.I. DuPont) scored the golden goal for Etown 3:58 into overtime off a Jeff Boushell (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) assist, scoring from the right side of the goal with a Moravian defender marking him tightly. It was Healy's team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Etown goaltender Edwin Tichenor (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) made three saves to preserve the shutout as the Blue Jays held a 12-8 advantage over Moravian in shots and a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
Etown will try to become just the third NCAA Division III men's soccer program ever to amass 700 wins Wednesday, October 27 when it hosts Juniata College in a 7:00 p.m. game. Haverford College, which has been playing varsity soccer for 100 years, became the first D-III program to hit the 700 plateau several years ago. Wheaton College (IL) became the second D-III program to reach 700 wins just three days ago.
